Born in Syria in 1956, educated in the USA, and inspired by her global and regional memories, Suhair Sibai was able in creating paintings that beautifully combine modern themes using classical techniques of artists like Klimt and Caravaggio.
Sibai is interested in exploring several themes in her paintings. One of these is the issue of identity in relation to personal experiences living in a global world. She is also highly invested in the depiction of the facial expressions that result from a different set of emotions. Viewing her paintings, once can be truly overwhelmed with the depiction of certain emotions using colors that would usually contradict them. This in particular makes her perception of human emotion to be uniquely different and thought provoking.
